Elford’s famous scarecrow festival took place over the bank holiday weekend and this year was bigger and better than ever. Sixty scarecrows, made by villagers, formed a trail around the village for visitors to find with many carefully made, and ingenious, mannequins on show. Characters from Les Miserables (or “Miserable Les”), TV cookery shows and even a flying witch all formed part of the festival which this year was visited by over 800 people.
Local Member of Parliament for Elford & Tamworth, Christopher Pincher, who visited the festival on Sunday said:
“The community spirit in Elford really is something special. And once again villagers have invited people from outside to join in.”
“Although “Miserable Les” was an inspired and really well made scarecrow, my personal favourite was Mo Farah and his trade mark victory dance. That one made me smile. Even the sun came out to support all the exhibitors and visitors.”
